Just east of
Cranberry Head on the rocky coastline leading from Chance Harbour to Saint John
is located the steep beach and land behind which has been occupied by the
Abbott family since the 1860s and was granted to Bridgit
Abbott by the New Brunswick government.
In the first
census of 1871, it was recorded that Francis and Bridgit
Abbott were the heads of the household as man and wife with children Mary and
Rosa. Bridgit’s parents Cornelius Bradley, age 78,
and Mary Bradley, aged 80, were living with the family.

them, and through Lizzie, from Daniel Belding and Mabel Bristol as well.
Henry’s father Joseph bought the house from Walter Wayne for Henry. They had
