The drowning of Charles BROWN and Daniel
CROWLEY of (St. John) city who left here on Friday morn. in a boat for
Chance Harbor, appears to be now a certainty. Mr. KANE of Chance Harbor, whose
house the men intended getting the fishing nets arrived here yesterday and
reports they had not reached his place, showing that the boat must have been upset
while on the way there. BROWN was the owner of two houses on Mill St. He had no
relations in this city, but leaves a cousin John DAVIS in Portland, Me.

A fishing schooner with three brothers named BELDING on board,
left here late on Monday night with supplies for Grand Manan. William BELDING
was on deck alone about midnight and his brothers who were below heard a shout
and went on deck, but failed to see their brother. The vessel was then at
Chance Harbor immediately in front of their home. It was so near the shore that
the father heard the noise from the house. He got in a small boat and rowed towards
the vessel. He was within a dozen feet of his son who had been knocked
overboard, when the young man disappeared and never rose. He was 18 years of
age. (see original)

We stated last week that the schooner "Arrow" from Digby for this port with a cargo of produce had been lost
in the Bay during the night of the 4th inst. She is supposed to have been upset
or disabled, and all on board drowned previous to the wreck coming on shore on
Little Dipper Harbour Ledges where the anchor and chain were discovered
.... The vessel belonged to William SULIS and the master. The following
is a list of persons on board: Capt. Eben. RICE, John SMITH and Henry SULIS (son of Caleb SULIS) who composed
the crew. The passengers were Joseph WINCHESTER, John Henry POTTER (son
of John POTTER), Edward WELCH (son of Garnet WELCH.)
Capt. RICE leaves a wife and family residing at Hillsburg,
N.S.; the others were all young men, we believe, belonging to the same
neighborhood.
